Bringing heaps of class back to the Zephyr Cove area, Toast is one of the best establishments in Tahoe to sample fine wines, sip craft ales, and delight in the subtle nuances of tapas tradition. Whether coming off of the mountain, out for a ladies' night, or celebrating an important occasion with family—Toast is reliably impressive with fantastic food and wine that keep up with any other restaurant in South Shore. Located at 605 Hwy 50 in Zephyr Cove, this under-the-radar tapas/wine bar will 'wow' you, and leave you planning your next visit.
If you’re heading to Toast, try to approach the experience budget-free. Not that this restaurant is any more expensive than any other fine-dining in South Lake, but because of the nature of a tapas experience, you’re going to want to order half the menu (at least that was my plight). At Toast, it would be easy to order from the appetizer menu and not have any room left for an entrée, but that’s okay because this place has one of the best selections of apps/flatbreads of anywhere in Tahoe. Amongst the app menu, my favorites are the Mezzo Mac, the calamari, or the Tuscan Flatbread (chicken breast, basil pesto, sundried tomato, artichoke heart, and fresh mozzarella).
The style and culinary sensibility of Toast swings wildly between Italian, Greek, and Californian--with an ever-pervasive excitement for the use of bacon. The food is great; the libations are fantastic—but Toast also has a few aces up its’ sleeve. For example, the female patrons of Toast are offered an extra incentive to be loyal—every night is Ladies Night—groups of six or more get a free round of champagne. Also, happy hour at Toast from 3-6pm offers awesome food and drink deals: $3 wells, $4 craft beer, $5 glasses of wine, as well as high-value prices on appetizers.
If you’ve never been to Toast, head to Zephyr Cove around happy hour and give this new local hot-spot a try…
