Spindleshanks American Bistro and Wine Bar
The co-owners of Spindleshanks, Steve Marks and Chef Herman Schuchmann, are preparing to move this fine Tahoe Vista institution to the Old Brockway Golf Course clubhouse, early this April. Though we’ll miss the historic location in the old Post Office building, their creative American bistro cuisine and stunning variety of world-class wines will continue to satiate in the new location. More to look forward to at the new location: the addition of breakfast, and the return of summer lunches; two bocce ball courts (and hopes of forming a North shore league); and an outdoor fire pit, for lingering on those starry summer nights. With its intimate blend of local ambience and casual elegance, and a five-star menu and wine list, Spindleshanks offers classic, casual Lake Tahoe style, with warm pine décor, and nautical and western memorabilia, in addition to choice Lake Tahoe scenes by Michael Eadington Photography, on display throughout the establishment. In the bar, enjoy Martini Mondays ($5/stem), and Tuesday’s all night happy hour. For starters, the Crunchy Fried Calamari with Rock Shrimp, chipotle aioli and salsa Durango says it all; Oysters on the half shell, for more classic tastes. The salads are light and gastronomically interesting, combining fresh greens and herbs with pecans, gorgonzola, dried cherries, almonds, and other delectables. For a delicious supper, try the Grilled Rainbow Trout with potato pancakes, and roasted garlic beurre blanc. Our family favorites are Roasted Butternut Squash Ravioli with browned butter sage sauce and candied pecans, as well as the Loin of Pork Schnitzel with parsley noodles and lemon butter. Well-crafted nightly specials round out the menu, and desserts range from traditional (Apple Crumble and Pecan Pie) to elegant (a Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee). Check out Steve’s private collection wine list (a connoisseur's dream cellar), for that special occasion!.
