Description:

Well, according to the locals, the name of this sweet little gravel beach keeps changing, and you’ll find no signs that say Patton Landing anywhere on site! At the entrance to the tiny (but free!) parking lot, this little curve in the road beach, café, and car top launch facility is dubbed Carnelian Bay Public Lake Access. (But you’ll still find it under “Patton Landing” at North Tahoe Recreation and Park’s website, listed above.) The entrance to the Landing is right across from Magic Carpet Mini-Golf.

What a great place to spend the morning, afternoon, or early evening, watching the moonrise. Run by the California Tahoe Conservancy, the beach is buffered from the roadway with patches of shore willow, birches, and a thriving marshland. A few picnic tables are scattered very informally out on the pebbled beach – two at the east end of the beach, and a couple more near the launch facility and seasonal restrooms.

A shaded, cobblestoned walkway connects the parking lot, beach access, and a path through the wetland. As Patton Landing is also one of the three dog beaches on the northeast shore, a doggie-bag dispenser is provided near the parking lot. The far end of the beach, to the east of a pedestrian bridge that passes through the wetland, is for folks who want to relax on the beach with their leashed dogs. The area to the west of the bridge (near the car-top launch area) is intended for people only. Please pick up after your pooch!

Patton’s Landing’s car top launch facility is available at no cost, but boaters are reminded to please help protect Lake Tahoe by having your (non-motorized, as well as motorized) watercraft inspected for aquatic invasive species. Visit http://tahoeboatinspections.com/ to find out where and how.

Lake Tahoe Watermen’s retail store offers tours, lessons, rentals, and retail sales of stand up paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks on the beach at Patton’s Landing. Watermen’s Beach Café operates (winter-spring hours) from 8-3 on Fridays and Sundays, and 8-5 on Saturdays, serving coffee and a light café menu.
