Founded on a beer-haus concept, The Himmel Haus stays true to its’ mission of importing the finest of German beer, food and culture. Not afraid of letting people have a good time, the Himmel Haus is renowned to South Shore locals as a place to have a party, throw a party, or just be at a party. As Jake, one of the bar-hands put it, “We don’t hold people back from having a good time, we push them…” Located just across from Heavenly Cal-base at 3819 Saddle Rd., the Himmel Haus--equipped with games and a large seating area--is an excellent place to bring your family after a day on the slopes. However, after about 9:00 pm, the place takes on a more nocturnal feel.

Founded by a tight group of friends led by owners Zak Latzka and Matt Eastling, the Himmel Haus opened its’ doors in July of 2012. Oriented to the wants and needs of the community--the Himmel Haus throws weekly events including open-mic on Mondays, live music every Saturday, trivia on Wednesdays, and the occasional special event. Sometimes the Himmel Haus will throw an event for a community-cause such as the “Bad Prom” party.

On top of all the good times to be had at the Himmel Haus, the real reason to visit is the beer! Featuring some extremely rare brews for this side of the world--the tap-room is locally renowned for having the best suds in South Lake. My favorite is the Staropramen, but most of the guys behind the bar are die-hard proponents of the Schonramer Festbier (So rare that Himmel Haus orders/consumes the entire west coast supply). If you’ve ever wanted to drink out of a glass boot or a four-liter stein, the Himmel Haus has got you covered. Similarly, if you’ve ever wanted to drink a centuries-old-recipe that was brewed by monks in a German monastery, the Himmel Haus is your place. For the locals, the Himmel Haus runs a stein club; all the steins are hand-made by owner Zak Latka’s mother. After paying a one-time membership fee, you are given a stein that stays in the Himmel Haus--and is only used by you. Every visit, your drinks are marked on a chart and your progress is documented. Whether you are a family in need of a good sit-down meal, or a rowdy twenty-something looking to be pushed to have a great night, The Himmel Haus is an exceptional place to do either, or maybe a little of both…
