Freshies Restaurant & Bar
As a longtime perennial favorite, Freshies has developed a loyal following amongst citizens of South Lake Tahoe. With a penchant for not cutting corners and an overall emphasis on serving health-conscious comfort food, this restaurant uses unconventional methods to achieve marvelous culinary results. Tucked into the Old Mall at 3330 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Freshies is in sync with the locals while also offering the tourist crowd something to look forward to...
Created by Erik and Melodie Ulman, Freshies is a multi-genre establishment that puts emphasis on bold flavors--specifically Hawaiian flair. Even though this restaurant distinguishes itself by the tasty food it serves, the way their food is prepared is what makes Freshies truly special. Incorporating many different fresh ingredients, all which are cooked with California Rice-Bran oil (the healthiest cooking oil available).
Personally, I think it's cool that Freshies uses different deep-fryers for their meats and veggies--guaranteeing that your food was cooked in a way that you can feel good about. Also, with the exception of obvious gluten products such as pasta and bread, the entire menu is gluten free--including the tempura!
At Freshies, the food alone would be enough reason for a visit, but they also pride themselves on an outstanding draft and bottled beer selection. In fact, many locals make regular visits to enjoy pints of Russian River Brewing's Piny the Elder, which is served on draft nowhere else for two hundred mile radius.
Chef Dave has been at Freshies for over thirteen years and continues to take pride in the excellence that he helps to create. Under a little prodding, he'll admit that his favorite dish is the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich, followed closely by the extremely popular tacos. A semi-secret among locals--go to Freshies on a powder day (12 inches or more
at lake level) and they'll hook you up with an exceptional deal of half-priced soups all day...
