Chart House - Lake Tahoe, Mountaintop Restaurant
The Chart House has operated one of Tahoe's only mountaintop restaurants for three decades. Prior to being adopted by the Chart House organization which operates several dozen exquisite dining establishments, the restaurant had become famous as the Pony Express Restaurant. It has been a culinary landmark for several generations now and will be for more. Nestled in the trees with no other commercial establishments near it. From your table, you can look down on Lake Tahoe, which is partially visible through the trees. As the sun sets, be prepared for brilliant oranges and reds enveloping the mountains that rise on the opposite side of Lake Tahoe. These colors are much brighter than you see from Lake Tahoe. Mountaintop sunsets are world renown, and this is no exception.
With a delectable menu to match the scenery, Chart House Lake Tahoe has served items like Macadamia Crusted Mahi; Shrimp, Crab, Avocado & Mango Stack; and Filet Mignon. Don't forget to order the Chart House Signature Hot Lava Cake when you order your appetizer. It takes half an hour to prepare the desert. Chart House is one of the few Lake Tahoe restaurants with a full gluten free menu. Just ask for it. Chart House is only open for the evening meal seven days a week, and closes at either 9:30 or 10 pm depending on the day of the week.
The 207 Highway that takes you to their driveway is one of the steeper access roads to Lake Tahoe, and the driveway that takes you to their mountaintop location is even steeper. In a winter storm, be prepared for some challenging driving.
