Carnelian West Beach
Carnelian West Beach is run by the California Tahoe Conservancy, and features a wide gravel beach, and year-round public restrooms. Located between Gar Woods Restaurant and Sierra Boat Company on Hwy. 28/North Lake Blvd. in Carnelian Bay, this facility shares free parking with Gar Woods, as well as a day-use buoy field out in the bay. Carnelian West welcomes dogs on leashes, and its long, curving expanse of south facing beach promises great walks, sunrise or sunset. Please pick up after your pet (doggie bags are provided near the parking area)!
The year-round public restrooms are located right at the parking area. Paved paths wind past a grassy area, and several benches placed discreetly among the landscaping, to the gravel beach and main picnic areas. The gently sloping beach is buffered from the roadway by a restored marshland on its northern edge. On the eastern end of the beach, large flat rocks encourage a sit-down, and scattered willow and pine trees provide a little shade. Two picnic tables are available, and a dirt path circles back out to the road and paved pathways.
At the western end of the beach, next to Gar Woods, there’s a full picnic area, equipped with tables and barbecue grills. Several more viewing benches have been strategically placed between the picnic area and the beach. The seating and picnicking options ensure that you can stay and play, or enjoy your dog walk and then retire to Gar Woods for a drink and dinner, all without getting back in your car. Heaven.
